What you see above is the exquisite blanket octopus, named after the beautiful, silky transparent webbing that connects their largest arms. I would tell you about their eating habits and their mating habits and their crazy sexual dimorphism, but none of that is as interesting as the fact that they’re total badasses.
Blanket octopodes are completely immune to the poison of the Portuguese man o’ war. The males and young females rip off the man o’ wars’ tentacles and use them for defensive purposes against predators. They take another animal’s weapon and use it as their own.
